Churchable: shipping an AI-powered video shorts feature inside an existing product
I joined Churchable as a specialist contractor to build a workflow that turns long-form sermon videos into AI-suggested short-form clips. The work combined an existing Next.js/React product with Remotion, transcript timestamps, Supabase, Deepgram and large-video processing.
- Role
- Freelance Product Engineer
- Stack
- Next.js · React · TypeScript · Remotion · Supabase · Deepgram · FFmpeg · AWS

(01)Context
Churchable helps churches extend the reach of their services. The founder wanted to turn long-form sermon recordings into short clips ready for social media, inside the product they already had.
(02)Role & scope
- →Scoping the feature directly with the founder
- →AI clip-suggestion workflow
- →Remotion editor integration in the existing Next.js/React app
- →Large-video handling, rendering and media optimization
(03)Constraints
- C1An existing codebase and conventions to work within, not around.
- C2Long, large source videos.
- C3A tight timeline for the initial version.
(04)Approach & key decisions
Transcript-driven clip selection
Clips are suggested from the transcript and its timestamps, using Deepgram, and stored alongside existing data in Supabase.
Remotion inside the existing app
Instead of a separate tool, the editor was integrated into the current Next.js/React product so users never leave Churchable.
Optimize media early
Large-video handling and rendering were treated as first-class concerns from the start, not a later fix.
(05)What was built
- +Sermon-to-shorts AI workflow
- +Timestamp-based clip suggestions
- +Embedded Remotion clip editor
- +Rendering and media pipeline for large videos
(06)Stack
(07)Outcome
The initial version shipped on a tight timeline, working directly with the founder from scope to delivery.
